APPLE To start enforcing New App Privacy Notifications

Apple Inc will start enforcing a new privacy notification rule that digital advertising firms such as Facebook Inc have warned will hurt their sales. Though precise date is not given by Apple. Apple said that the notices will become mandatory when its iOS 14.5 operating system becomes available in the coming weeks.

The one-time notices will require an app developer to ask a user’s permission before the app tracks activities “across other companies’ apps and websites.” Many users will eventually decline permission because of the warning, said experts from many Digital advertising industry. This announcement was made last June itself, then Apple in September said that it would give some for the advertisers to adjust and delayed the changes. On a voluntary basis some developers are already displaying the notice.

Ahead of the change, Apple said that it is providing developers with some alternative advertising tools. For advertisers running app installation ads, one tool provides a way to see how many people installed an app after the ad campaign, without divulging information on individual users. Private click management, is another tool that gives advisers a way to measure, when a user clicks an ad inside an app and is taken to a web page. But this doesn’t reveal any data about the individual user. The tools are intended to be used by software developers. And so, Apple added information about them to one of its privacy guides for consumers. In December Facebook had said that it had planned to show the pop-up notification because it did not want Apple iPhone users to lose access to its apps.
