The need to develop for the needy! – Johnson

The innovative business leaders all across United Kingdom have called on the UK’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson to deliver the promise made by him, on the transformative National Strategy of Disabled People. Recently in an open letter they wrote to the PM, urging him to act on it. The board consisted of business leaders , including Post office CEO Nick Read, Schroders CEO Peter Harrison and Mathew Layton, global managing partner at the Clifford Chance. The letter was supported by the CSJ Disability Commission, which is an independent body. The signatories expressed their concern and said that the disabled people had waited for a very long time now and it was the right time to take action towards a better opportunity for them. They also appealed the Prime Minister to show the considerations he had chosen to give to the commission’s recommendations. As the pandemic hit, the disabled people are the most affected according to the ONS, as they lacked basic amenities too and with the challenges they faced the issues just doubled up for them and it was the Government’s duty to provide a better life and value to them. The employment gap hit a hard widening and only 52 per cent of the disabled people are currently in employment, compared to the 81 per cent of the non- disabled ones.

The CSJ commission is planning on releasing the published work of their “Now Is The Time”, a detailed report which is designed to feed into the Prime Minister’s National Strategy thoroughly. The CSJ disability commissions has five key recommendations and among them one highlights the introduction of mandatory workforce reporting to bring back a greater transparency. Commission’s Chair person, stated that the disabled people had been waiting for an awfully long time for this amends and that he hopes Johnson will pay heed to it this time. As Shinkwin considers that it is very vital that they seize the opportunity and chart a new course that will be more than just warm words and shoulder taps. He believed it was the right time now to take action and that they had only one shot at it and that was the reason why it was so important to get the strategy accurate.

The CSJ Disability Commission’s five recommendations are as follows:

  1. Increasing the supported routes into the employment sector
  2. Introducing mandatory employment and pay gap reporting to maintain the transparency
  3. Leveraging Government procurement
  4. Reforming the Government’s Disability Confident scheme for the future needs
  5. Reforming the Government’s Access to Work schemes.

The commission was set up with a strong back up from the DFN foundation, which was founded by David Forbes Nixon. The DFN foundation is committed to develop a new vision which enables to seize the opportunity of the disability employment agenda and drive the noticeable changes which will sustain for the longer periods. Forbes Nixon shared that he was able to have a deeper insight about the inequalities or the lack of accessibilities, the disabled people in the United Kingdom have in many fields as the education system, employment programs and even the chances at life, when he himself had a disabled a song who went through these disparities.

The commission board and the business leaders are in hope that the Prime Minister’s responsible action will benefit and provide the most anticipated solutions for the discrepancies faced by the disabled people and are building the strategy in such a way that the Government assuredly considers it.
