Quantum Leap: Paris-Based Alice & Bob to Establish \$50 Million Research Hub

It was announced by French quantum computing startup Alice & Bob that a new quantum computing laboratory, estimated at \$50 million, would be constructed in Paris. The facility was reported to be intended as a crucial step toward advancing the company’s development of next-generation quantum computing technology. This initiative, as disclosed by the company, would be funded by proceeds from its recent \$103 million private funding round, which was completed to accelerate product development and expansion.

The lab, which had been envisioned as a cornerstone of Alice & Bob’s transition from pure research to industrial application, was expected to support the design and deployment of the company’s upcoming chip series. These chips, bearing the codenames Lithium, Beryllium, and Graphene, were projected to be the next major innovation from the firm, which has gained attention in the quantum technology space for its unique approach.

Founded in 2020, Alice & Bob had been recognized as one of the emerging players in the rapidly evolving field of quantum computing. It had been shared by company representatives that their mission was centered on building quantum computers that were not only more powerful than current models but also significantly more efficient. The intention was to reduce the physical footprint, energy consumption, and hardware demands typically associated with quantum systems being developed by larger competitors.

According to company communications, the new Paris laboratory would serve as a facility where Alice & Bob’s proprietary cat qubit technology could be refined into functional, market-ready systems. This technology, known for its ability to resist errors in quantum computation, was anticipated to be a differentiator in an industry where stability and reliability remain critical hurdles.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Théau Peronnin, was quoted as having stated that the establishment of the laboratory marked a shift in strategic focus—from foundational research toward product commercialization. He indicated that the laboratory would enable the company to produce technologies that could be evaluated in real-world conditions by future clients and end users.

To equip the laboratory with state-of-the-art infrastructure, partnerships had been formed with key players in the quantum technology ecosystem. Among the companies selected to support the buildout were Israel-based Quantum Machines, whose control and orchestration systems were known to help accelerate the development of functional quantum computers. Their technology was expected to facilitate seamless experimentation with Alice & Bob’s quantum processing units.

Additionally, Bluefors—a Finnish company specializing in ultra-low-temperature refrigeration systems critical to quantum computing—had been named as a core collaborator. Bluefors was slated to provide the cryogenic technology necessary to maintain the extreme cold environments required for quantum operations. The laboratory’s design included a cryostat farm intended to host up to 20 dilution refrigerators, all of which would be integral to supporting experimentation on the advanced quantum chips.

It was further revealed that the facility would house a nanofabrication cleanroom, which would serve as a prototyping center for developing high-precision quantum processing units. This environment, controlled for temperature, air purity, and vibrations, was expected to allow the company’s researchers to fabricate and iterate on quantum components with extreme precision.

Observers noted that this development aligned with broader European ambitions to become a leader in quantum technology. Governments and private investors alike had been ramping up support for quantum initiatives amid growing recognition of the field’s potential to revolutionize industries such as pharmaceuticals, cybersecurity, logistics, and financial modeling.

Industry analysts believed that Alice & Bob’s efforts could position France more prominently on the global quantum computing map. The company’s unique approach—rooted in robust error correction through cat qubits—had drawn considerable interest from both scientific communities and venture capital firms seeking to support next-generation computation technologies.

Though the timeline for full commercialization remained uncertain, it was generally acknowledged that Alice & Bob’s new laboratory could accelerate time-to-market for their proprietary technologies. It was also anticipated that the lab would serve as a testing ground for client applications and new use cases, paving the way for real-world integration of quantum computing solutions.

By leveraging strategic partnerships, cutting-edge infrastructure, and innovative internal technologies, Alice & Bob was said to be preparing itself not only for future market competition but also for a potentially transformative role in the global tech ecosystem. The Paris lab, once operational, would be expected to stand as a physical and symbolic representation of the company’s ambition to bridge the gap between research excellence and industrial relevance in quantum computing.
